"Who are their People? My grandmother used to ask me this whenever we discussed anyone. She wanted to know family connections. Like her I want to know "My People". This blog is about that discovery.

Wedding Wednesday~100 Years!

On June 28, 1914, my maternal Great Grandparents were married in Columbia, Richland County,SC. They would be celebrating 100 years on Saturday!
I am fortunate to have a picture of William Treadford Roberts (1894-1959) and his bride Beulah Mae Price (1897-1980) on their wedding day.

Family lore says that Beulah's parents, Bertrand Campbell Price (1876-unknown) and Bessie Mae Eargle (1884-1943)  did not want her to marry William because she was only 17.
Determined to marry him in spite of their disapproval, Beulah put her wedding dress on under her everyday clothes, distracted her mother by making her baby brother cry, and ran off to meet William.
They were married for almost 45 years before William's death in 1959 and were the parents of 12 children.

Are we kin? If so, please contact me. Together, we can find our people!
Thanks so much for reading!

  2. Cheri, there are many interesting things about his post. The couple was running off secretly and yet there was an opportunity for a wedding photo. Beulah was old enough to get married and yet she had a baby brother. [I suppose that was not too uncommon in those days.] Best of all, you have this photograph and story 100 years later!

    1. You are very right! I'm thinking that the groom's family knew and that's why we have the picture! She was the oldest of several children. Convenient to have that baby brother to use as a cover!! Thanks so much for reading! I really appreciate it!
